Hi, I’m Chris. I created a technology firm on 2011 with my wife and the first cross border commerce platform on 2013 in the Philippines. Both were acquired by the Sterling Group of Companies in 2017. So fast forward 3 years later (today) and now I mentor and sometimes back Startups.
I’m not sure if I want to start another tech company right now, but I didn’t want to use my personal gmail to connect with people and services. If you know the game, you can’t tell people that you have no real plans. So I wanted to register a domain so I can say,
“Yea man, I got plenty of ideas.“ - Dave Chappelle
But I really don’t right now. Well nothing for a business at least. I’m a programmer, and like many programmers, I never had a chance to build something I love. Later on I may want to share it with other people. So circling back I need to register a domain that could be a company in the future.
My last tech venture was formatted as a venture labs. Later on, I come to realize that it’s hard for investors to fund a venture lab. Additionally, I don’t want people to think that this company is accepting client work. So the goal becomes this. Create a future tech company brand that is not a venture labs and kindly rejects clients work.
The first thing I do is identify the purposes and highlight the keywords. In my case it would look like the following.
Prototype software for potential startup ventures
Accelerate the web and mobile development from 3-6 months to 1-2 months
The environment should be technology research and design think tank
Create a platform to develop software without coding or very little
Now the keyword list would look like the following.
Prototype
Accelerate
technology
R&D
think tank
Then I try to combine words. In this case I chose “techcelerator“. Next I look up synonyms and symbols based on the keywords. After Googling, I have additional keywords that look like the following.
antecendent
archetype
concurd
inception
inflection
intron
geum
Next I went to google domains to check it’s availability (try shuffling prefixes, suffixes). I also wanted to do a general google search for company names to see how saturated the keyword is. If a domain is parked, remember you can always buy it later.
techcelerator
intron.dev
intron.cloud
incept.cloud
incept.digital
Incept.media
Incept.systems
incept.technology
incept.space
incept.asia
incept.ventures
inflect.cloud
inflect.dev
inflect.media
concurd.com
geum.co
guyver.tech
inceptance.com
inceptful.com
inceptical.com
Organize the ones you want. I bolded my favorites. Next I asked about 12 people I knew from different backgrounds about which ones they like based on your choices. Do not allow them to choose anything else or face a longer conversation. From outside advise it came to the following domains. Finally I add my email name to see what looks the best.
chris@incept.asia
chris@inceptful.com
chris@inceptful.tech
I liked all of them to be honest. So what I did was bought all of it. According to Merriam-Webster, incept means.
archaic : BEGIN, COMMENCE, UNDERTAKE
Which i think is a simple word for “prototype”, “R&D” and “think tank”. It’s also a very good movie “Inception”. There are plenty of ways to come up with a company name. When thinking about yours, here are some key points to consider.
Companies that IPO have their .com
Should be something simple to spell (without needing to spell it)
The meaning should be inline with your purpose
Make sure you can live with your email address
